He walked the path back to the house they were using as their headquarters at the moment; though it wasn’t much on the outside the inside made up plenty for it. As he walked in through the door he stopped and looked to the right to stare at his own reflection. Heavy bags hung under his eyes, his tan skin was much duller and his black hair a mess.

“You need to get rest. Huntir and I have everything set up so take this opportunity to gather your strength. Wearing yourself out like this will not be beneficial in guarding her.”

Lucca turned to his older brother Matteo, surprised that he had arrived so soon. “I know, I will go take a shower and get rest, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done.” He passed Matteo but not before laying his hand on his brother's shoulder as if silently reassuring him not to worry and that he was fine. Though his brother had pointed out his need for rest, his mind was running around with too many unanswered questions with no way to solve them. But one question he kept going back to was always the same, the one that would matter most in the end.

When he finally reveals the truth to her will she rise from her sorrow and be the savior they needed her to be? Or will she turn away and go into hiding like her mother did and suffer the same fate? As he got to the top of the stairs, without turning around he asked, “Why did you arrive ahead of schedule brother?” he waited for his brother to reply, a heavy silence floated between the two. He did not expect the next few words that came out of his brother’s mouth.

“We have verification on who killed Aella.”

Interview between Keira Kroft and Sci-fi author Edward McKeown

Hello Edward. Welcome. You have conducted many interviews, about your books and your personal life and your hobbies, so today...let’s talk about Edward the reader :)

 

Keira: How many books do you read per year?

Not as many as I used to before I was writing and in a writing group.  Since I am usually doing 3-4 chapters every two weeks from the group that cuts into it.  However I normally have a fiction and non-fiction book going so I would say better than thirty a year.  Before I was writing it would have been two or three times as many.

Keira: Who is your favorite literary character?

Oh you are killing me.  How do I keep it to one?  If I have to commit to one, let me go with Dard Nordis of the Stars are Ours, brave, decent and devoted he was a real young person trying to fit into a universe that did not make easy allowance for him

Keira: Is there one author that you have read every book that they have written?

There are two.  Andre Norton and CJ Cherryh

Keira: In your opinion what is the best movie adaptation of a book that you've read?

It would have to be the Lord of the Rings.  Jackson did a near perfect job of balancing the needs of the movie with respect for the text

Keira: When you are browsing book stores what is the first section you go to?

What I read, SF & F, then over to the History Section.

Keira: If you had the chance to have a sit down with any author alive or deceased who would it be and why?

I have been fortunate to sit down with some living ones.  Of the living I have yet to meet would be CJ Cherryh.  Of those who have gone into the great beyond, Andre Norton.

Interview between Keira Kroft and Darcy Town

Welcome to Keira’s Corner, where there is always chocolate, and lots and lots of coffee.

 

First a little bit about Darcy Town

I earned a degree in Comparative Religion, so themes-wise that certainly pops up here and there in my writing (okay, more than a little here and there in some books).

I write what I enjoy reading/watching - which is fantasy/sci-fi with dark humor and a bit of romance. What I consider romance however is to some...a bit off (and kinked out). And when I say dark humor I mean black. But I always have lighthearted moments (I do not believe a story should be all one way or another). Gotta spice things up!

Speaking of...I like to write stories that cater to all sexual preferences in one story (as opposed to just writing gay/lesbian lit, etc). I have your typical male-female romances. I have male-male, female-female, transgender, bi-sexual, sub-dom, etc. This is mostly due to the fact that well...1. I like writing about it. 2. I see it in my everyday life. 3. I like having a well-rounded cast of characters from all walks of life.

Welcome Darcy I have a few questions for you.

Keira: You have a story, Wastes of Space, that is available now. What is that about?
Short answer:  Wastes of Space is a story about a washed out American astronaut, Rake, who gets a second chance at space and life when he is thrown together with an alien, Ravil, who is on the run from a space-faring empire.

Keira: Where in the Hell did you find time to write?

I work from home, so at the moment it is easy to find time before work, at lunch, and after work.  I write sporadically.  I used to have hours of time that I would dedicate to writing each day, but since I’ve injured my wrists, it’s better for me to write in short 15-30 minute blocks throughout the day.  Finding time like that is pretty easy.

Keira: Why are you a writer?

I love the creation process, and I enjoy telling stories.  Writing gives me a sense of accomplishment that I do not get anywhere else.  I also fall in love with my characters, so writing about them is fun and an emotional rollercoaster.

Keira: How many hours a day do you dedicate to writing?

Currently anywhere from half an hour to three or four hours.  Lately, it’s been closer to the half hour mark, but that’s life getting in my way, not a lack of desire to write.

Keira: Do you use a particular writing method?

I don’t do anything special to start off.  I sit down at my computer and try to dive right in, and then I keep writing until a scene is complete (I dislike writing half a scene and then stopping for a break).  I always have a general idea of where a scene is going to go and what it should accomplish, but I never really know until I start writing it.  I keep my ideas loose, and if the story takes a strange turn, I always let it go that way.  But, I do have an overall road map for a book, and for the series as a whole. 

Keira: What time of day, do you write best?

Early morning or the evening.  I tend to get sleepy midday and all I want to do then is take a nap.  I am a morning person, so I can get up and write with no problems (as long as I have some coffee), but in the evening I really feel amped to write.  If I start in the evening around dinnertime, I can write late into the night.

Keira: What advice would you give to an unpublished writer?

Don’t think about publishing, hard I know, focus on the story and complete that.  I think many writers focus on the publishing aspect, when they need to focus on the story and making that the best that it can be.  The story is the most important, not who distributes your books.  Once it’s totally complete, proofed, edited, proofed ten more times…then start thinking about what route you want to go for publishing.

Noodles of any kind.  I am a pasta junkie.

Keira: What is your favorite color?

Green.  I love the color green. Me too :)

Keira: Do you have pets?
I have a lovely fluffy black cat named Hesper.  She is my writing companion, and she typically sits in my lap when I am at the computer.

Keira: What do you consider a household staple?

Coffee…coffee is a necessity.  I get cranky if I go somewhere and realize I cannot get a cup of coffee anytime I want.

Keira: What are you reading?

The Golden Globe by John Varley.

Synopsis for Wastes Away – Book Two:

…A split second later in the same galaxy as before, but pretty far away…

Rake and Ravil have escaped Earth and the Empire, towing the rest of their friends and new allies with them. They flee to an abandoned Empire colony known only as Seed Planet 15.

Needing supplies for repairs, the crew decides the best course of action is to raid abandoned Ampyr outposts for gear. Smart, no foreseeable problems there. Except one of the outposts they hit isn't empty, Lincoln's personality issues are getting worse, food is going missing, and their Rexos is about to hit puberty and apparently that's accompanied by uncontrollable rages. As if that wasn't enough bad news, there seems to be a sentient black hole chasing down Ravil and attempting to eat her.

But not to worry, Danny's reforming their squad and apparently ranking still flies out in space. No more messing around, things are getting serious. At least seriously screwed up.

Introducing Emergence by C. Michelle Jefferies

Keira’s Corner would like to introduce C. Michelle Jefferies. This is the first of two stops that this awesome writer will be making here. Look for her December 12^th. I will be conducting an interview and we will chatting about her Christmas themed story.

A little about Ms. Jefferies

C. Michelle Jefferies practically grew up in a library. The oldest daughter of four, she spent hours devouring books with her mother. When she was ten, she realized that she wanted to write stories like the science fiction books she loved to read. In high school, she met another writer that inspired her to write a novel instead of just short stories. She finished that 189 page handwritten novel the summer of her junior year.

A mother of seven, she put her writing on the back burner while she focused on raising her young children, and volunteering as a breastfeeding counselor in her community. When her children were old enough for her to spend a few hours on the computer, without them burning the house down, she returned to writing and hasn’t stopped since. Often writing or editing with a baby in her arms or under her feet.

Married to the guy her high school boyfriend introduced her to; she claims the last 20 + years as her education and mission experience. With a love for natural mothering, and a passion for secret agents and all things Asian she writes about bad boys turned good and fantasy of the urban type. All while beating herself up three times a week in Karate class as she works toward her black belt in Tang Soo Do.

Terrifying Tuesday: Interview with Horror Writer J. Gunn

Welcome to Keira’s Corner, where there is always chocolate, and lots and lots of coffee.

Keira: You have a story out, a self-published project entitled Devil's in the Details. What is that about?

Jen: This is a compilation of two years of short horror tales derived to give the horror lovers out there something to enjoy this fall into winter. If you like blood and gore you're going to love it. 

Keira: What do you wear, to write?

Jen: I would say nothing but you all know that's not true, usually my jammies.

Keira: Is writing your only talent?

Jen: No just my favorite one, I also have learned a lot of formats for books, I love to draw, I used to sing in the choir, anything artist usually strikes a chord with me and I try to learn it. I'm a fast learner.

Keira: Why are you a writer?

Jen: Because when I think about not writing, I can't breathe. After almost 20 years it's like water in a river, without it I think I would just about dry up and fade away.

Keira: What time of day, do you write best?

Jen: The nighttime is my favorite time to write, it's quiet. The vampire tunes inspire and it flows better when the sun isn't shining in my eyes.

Keira: Do you use one or more pen names?

Jen: Yes, currently I guess I have two, picked up another a few months back for another project I'm working on with a friend. They are J. Gunn and Aziraphale the Angel of Death.

Keira: Are you currently running any contests? What are they?

Jen: No, I'm currently not but give it time I may think up a few.

Keira: What advice would you give to an unpublished writer?

Jen: Keep going, do not give up or give in no matter how depressing it feels at times. You WILL eventually find a method that works for you if you want it bad enough. Never stop learning and growing.

 

Let’s get personal…

Keira: What is your guilty Pleasure?

Jen: Right now, it would be Kindle books. Usually it's other things like chocolate I can't have because it hurts my teeth.

Keira: What is your favorite Smell?

Jen: Vanilla scented anything.

Keira: Can you tell us a secret?

Jen: Well, yeah I guess I can tell you, I'm planning a few more projects. I'm working on a Children's book for my daughter to be out around Christmas and a novel about a family who lives with and deals with daily a lot of ghost issues, it's not due out really soon just might be done with the first draft pretty soon, I'm at about 33k with it right now. (Huge secret about the ghost story, I didn't start writing it until September 17^th!)

Keira: What are you reading?

Jen: At the moment, not a thing lol! I've read a lot of books by my fellow authors, which I try to review because I love my friends, but lately I've been working so much I'm behind severely so I hope they don't smack me with a book from across the country lol!

Keira: Can you share your blurb with us?

What’s more tantalizing or titillating on Halloween then bloody corpses, living nightmares, or hatchets used to cut you to pieces? Inside this anthology you will find more than one's fair share of gore, and atrophy. Don’t blame me for what enters your dreams.

Excerpt from Your Blood, Devil's in the Details, Horror Anthology by J. Gunn

The day has come to kill you. Everything about you must die because your very presence on earth is wrong. You have been here without a soul for far too long. This world deserves a chance to live on without you, you evil son of a bitch. I will hunt you and when I find you and yours, you all will die.

I finally found you one day at a place secluded from a lot of other people in the dark; I had searched for what felt like ages. But really it had only been days. I walked out there without shoes and my feet were muddy and bleeding. My white dress draped my small form, clinging to me with sweat from walking all the way into the remote locale that your warehouse fortress had to be.

I walked all the way out there with my hatchet in my hand and murder on my mind. It glistened shining in the moonlight. And I saw a light on in the top floor window of your evil factory.

Grass that crackled on the bottom of my feet crunched as I slowly make my way up to the entrance of your ‘palace.’ I see you sitting with your back to the window and the small pains of glass glow with the light from your lamps.

I decided the place would go up in flames easy enough because the building was very old and I would do that after I killed you. It would be harder to tell who killed you if the evidence was all charred or mostly gone. Fire was like water a renewal source, so when it all burned to the ground it would cleanse the earth of your evil as well.

My small hand griped the hatchet hard and my brown eyes burn with tears of hatred for you and what you’ve done. My tear stained face was filled with emotions of many women all at once living in my head. My light olive skin was dirty and parts of my body are bleeding. My white dress is dirty too; matted with filth of the days and hours it took me to get to you.

I hide now staring up at you from behind a tree closest to the window you sit by. You have no idea I’m here, and certainly no idea that anyone knows about you and what you are, too bad for you but someone found you out and now I’m here to kill you. I see also that you have another with you I think I will go after him first then you. You will be the most fun anyway and why not save the best for last.
